Community Guidelines

Effective date: 6 October 2026

Sociera is a location-based social app for adults. These Community Guidelines explain the standards that apply when you use Sociera. They form part of the Sociera Terms and Conditions.

We want Sociera to be a place where people can connect, share what is happening around them and take part safely and respectfully. Use good judgement, respect other people’s rights and boundaries, and remember that location-sharing can have real-world consequences.

1. Who can use Sociera

1.1 You must be at least 18 years old to create or use a Sociera account.

1.2 Do not create an account for anyone else, allow another person to use your account, impersonate another person or provide false information about your age or identity.

2. Respect other people

2.1 Do not use Sociera to threaten, harass, bully, stalk, intimidate, exploit or abuse anyone.

2.2 Do not target people because of a protected characteristic, including race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or belief, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.

2.3 Do not share another person’s personal information, private communications, location, image or video without a lawful basis and, where appropriate, their permission. This includes doxxing, sharing intimate images without consent, or using location information to track, monitor or contact someone against their wishes.

2.4 Do not make unwanted sexual advances, send unwanted sexual content, or engage in conduct that is coercive, exploitative or abusive.

3. Illegal and harmful content

3.1 Do not post, send, share, promote or facilitate illegal activity or illegal content. This includes content or conduct involving:

  • terrorism or violent extremism;

  • child sexual exploitation or abuse (see section 12);

  • threats of violence or encouragement of serious violence;

  • fraud, scams, phishing, identity theft or other deception for financial gain;

  • the sale, supply or promotion of illegal drugs, weapons or other illegal goods;

  • non-consensual intimate imagery;

  • hate crime or unlawful discrimination;

  • serious harassment, stalking or coercive behaviour; and

  • content that infringes another person’s intellectual-property or other legal rights.

3.2 Do not encourage, assist or glorify self-harm, suicide, eating disorders or dangerous activities. If you believe that someone is at immediate risk, contact the emergency services.

4. Be honest and authentic

4.1 Do not impersonate another person or organisation, create a misleading account, misrepresent your relationship with another person or place, or manipulate engagement through fake accounts, bots or coordinated activity.

4.2 Do not post content that you know is materially false or misleading where it is likely to cause harm, fraud or danger to others.

5. Content, privacy and intellectual property

5.1 Only post or share content that you have the right to use. Respect copyright, trade marks and other intellectual-property rights.

5.2 You are responsible for the content you post, send or share, including content in messages and Society chats. Content shared with “Everyone” may be seen, saved, reposted, shared or captured by other users. Deleting or unsending content may not remove copies already seen, saved, reposted or shared by others.

5.3 Do not use Sociera to collect, scrape or harvest information about other users without permission. Do not use bots, scripts or other automated means to access Sociera unless we have expressly permitted this.

6. Use location features safely

6.1 Location features are optional. Before sharing your location, think carefully about who may see it and use the available privacy controls, including Ghost Mode, Ghost Mode Near Home, approximate location and blocking.

6.2 Do not rely on Sociera’s location information for personal safety, emergency response or navigation. Location information may be inaccurate, delayed or unavailable.

6.3 If you choose to meet another user, use sensible precautions. Meet in a public place where appropriate, tell someone you trust where you are going, and leave if you feel unsafe. Sociera does not carry out background checks or verify every user’s identity.

7. Spam, commercial activity and platform integrity

7.1 Do not send spam, unsolicited commercial communications or repetitive unwanted messages.

7.2 Do not use Sociera to distribute malware, harmful links or code, interfere with the app or its systems, attempt unauthorised access, or disrupt other users’ experience.

7.3 Do not use Sociera for commercial promotions, paid endorsements or other business activity unless we have expressly agreed this with you in writing.

8. Reporting a problem

8.1 You can report content, profiles or conduct that you believe is illegal or breaches these Guidelines using the reporting tools in Sociera. If the issue concerns a message or chat, report the relevant user through the available reporting route or contact us at support@sociera.com.

8.2 Reports are not disclosed to the reported user. Please provide as much relevant information as you can. If you believe there is an immediate risk of harm, contact the emergency services first.

9. How we respond

9.1 We review reports and may take action where appropriate. This may include removing or restoring content, issuing a warning, restricting an account, suspending or banning a user, or taking no action.

9.2 We do not automatically remove content merely because it has been reported. Some reports may be prioritised for review because of their nature or number.

9.3 Where we take action that materially affects your content or account, we will normally notify you in-app and explain the reasons, unless doing so would be unlawful or would create a safety, security or fraud risk.

10. Appeals

10.1 If you think we have made the wrong decision about your report, content or account, you may appeal through the route stated in our decision notice or the Sociera Safety Centre. We will review the appeal fairly.

11. Updates to these Guidelines

11.1 We may update these Guidelines to reflect changes to Sociera, safety risks, law or regulatory guidance. Where changes are material, we will give reasonable notice through Sociera or by another appropriate means.

12. Child safety

12.1 Sociera has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). Sociera Limited prohibits any content or behaviour that sexually exploits, abuses or endangers children, including:

  • child sexual abuse material (CSAM), whether real, drawn, animated or AI-generated;

  • grooming, or contacting a child for sexual purposes;

  • sextortion of a child;

  • advertising, soliciting or trafficking a child for sexual purposes; and

  • any content, message or profile that sexualises children.

12.2 Sociera is for adults aged 18 and over, but this prohibition applies whatever the age of the people involved.

12.3 You can report suspected CSAE in the app, using Report on the profile, content or message concerned. You can also email contact@sociera.com. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 or your local emergency number first.

12.4 When we become aware of CSAE, we remove the content, ban the accounts involved, report it to the UK National Crime Agency (NCA) and keep the content and related account information for the period UK law requires. We cooperate with law enforcement.

12.5 For questions about our child safety practices, email contact@sociera.com.
